Service areas
Two offices, two distinct markets. We serve the Wilmington, NC area — coastal homes, salt-zone exposure, hurricane-aftermath repair — out of our New Hanover County office, with coverage extending 40 miles through Brunswick (Leland, Belville, Southport, Oak Island) and southern Pender (Hampstead, Castle Hayne, Surf City). On the Virginia side we work the Fredericksburg corridor — older housing stock, plaster walls, original sash windows, brick-pointing on historic homes — covering the City of Fredericksburg plus Spotsylvania, Stafford, and King George counties in a 35-mile radius.
If your property sits inside either coverage radius, the same crew runs your job at the same fixed-price terms. We do not subcontract to a franchise network — the person who quotes the work is from the office that does the work.
Licensing and insurance
Forthright Home Repair is licensed and insured in both states we operate in — North Carolina and Virginia. A certificate of insurance naming your property as an additional insured is available on request before any job begins. Where a job requires a specialty license we don't hold, we say so on the walkthrough.
We do not perform work that requires a higher specialty license — electrical service-panel work, structural engineering, full roof replacement, HVAC refrigerant handling. When a job crosses into that territory we say so on the walkthrough and refer to a specialist licensed in your state. That referral is free and unaffiliated; we do not take a fee from the partner trade.
What happens after you reach out
Phone, email, or the quote form — whichever is easiest. The form lets you attach photos, which gets you to a price faster on jobs we can quote remotely. For anything that needs measurements (most plaster, sash, exterior trim, deck and porch work) we book a free on-site walkthrough, usually within the same week. You see the written estimate before any work begins, and the number on it is the number on the invoice unless scope changes in writing. Every completed job ships with a 1-year workmanship warranty on every job.
See our services overview for the full category list and the kinds of work that fall outside our scope.
Contact FAQs
- How quickly do you respond to quote requests?
- Most weekday requests submitted before 4pm get a same-day reply with either a quote (for jobs we can price from photos) or a walkthrough booking (for jobs that need an on-site visit). Storm-aftermath callouts in our coastal-NC service area move to the top of the queue ahead of cosmetic work.
- Do you charge for quotes or walkthroughs?
- No. Photo-and-description quotes and on-site walkthroughs are both free in our service area. You will not see an estimate-fee line on any invoice — if a job is too small to drive to, we will say so up front rather than charge a trip fee to come look at it.
- Which counties do you serve?
- Out of the Wilmington, NC office: New Hanover, Brunswick, and Pender counties (40-mile radius). Out of the Fredericksburg, VA office: the City of Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Stafford, and King George counties (35-mile radius). If you are inside the radius the same crew runs your job; there is no out-of-area surcharge.
- How do I know what the job will cost before you start?
- Every job gets a written estimate with a fixed labor figure and an itemized materials line that names the spec (hardware grade, paint product, fastener type). You see and approve it before any work begins. The number on the estimate is the number on the invoice unless scope changes in writing — there is no hourly creep on a fixed-price job.
- Are you licensed and insured?
- Yes, in both states we operate in — North Carolina and Virginia. A certificate of insurance naming your property as an additional insured is available on request before any job starts.
